Harbhajan Singh has slammed BCCI for allowing India to face Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025 despite national tensions.
The former India off-spinner questioned the decision, citing ongoing border conflicts and recent terror attacks in Kashmir.
Harbhajan Singh on India vs Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025
India and Pakistan are scheduled to clash on September 14 in Dubai in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2025.
They could face off two more times — in the Super 4s and final — if both teams progress that far.
Harbhajan expressed outrage over the decision, especially in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
“Our soldiers sacrifice lives, and we go play cricket with Pakistan? That’s not right,” he said.
Nation Always Comes First,’ Says Harbhajan Singh
The 400-wicket veteran said skipping a cricket match is nothing when compared to the sacrifices of Indian soldiers.
“This is a small thing. A soldier’s life matters more than any match,” Harbhajan told Times of India.
He referred to India’s long-standing policy: “Khoon aur paani ek saath nahi beh sakte.”
The former cricketer emphasized that no player or board decision should override national security sentiments.
No One Should Shake Hands With Pakistani Players
Harbhajan further urged Indian cricketers to stop all gestures of goodwill with Pakistan players during matches.
He also called on Indian media to avoid airing Pakistani reactions or statements.
“Why are we giving them airtime? Stop showing them. They don’t matter to us,” he said.
No One Is Bigger Than the Nation
Harbhajan Singh believes cricketing ties with Pakistan should remain suspended — even in multi-nation tournaments.
He asserted that respect for fallen soldiers should come before commercial or sporting interests.“Cricket match na khelna bahut maamuli si baat hai desh ke samne,” he concluded.
