Speaking to Vickey Lalwani, Virendra said, “Sachin dada has always supported Vinod. Their friendship is still very strong. Sachin calls and checks on him with Andrea [Hewitt, Vinod’s wife].”

The world first witnessed their special bond when the duo stitched together a record-breaking 664-run partnership in school cricket. That partnership became folklore, highlighting their remarkable chemistry both on and off the field. Tendulkar made his debut earlier, and while he converted his immense promise into greatness, Kambli’s international career could not live up to its early promise. Still, the connection between the two friends has never diminished.
Virendra recalled memories of those days, saying, “He was closest to him. I don’t know about others, but I saw them together when I went to watch Ranji Trophy matches. I would go to the dressing room to eat, and Sachin dada, Vinod, and I would sit together and have fun. We would joke around and have a good time.”
Vinod Kambli’s Road to Recovery
Kambli’s health struggles came into focus after a blood clot in his brain required hospitalization a few months ago. The situation was serious, but his family now shares a hopeful outlook as he continues treatment at home. Virendra provided a much-needed update: “He is at home right now. He is getting stable, but his treatment is on. He is having difficulty speaking. It will take him time to recover. But he is a champion, and he will come back.”
He added, “He will start walking and running, hopefully. I have a lot of faith in him. I hope you can see him back on the ground.”
As Vinod Kambli slowly moves toward recovery, the unbreakable support from Sachin Tendulkar reminds fans that cricket’s greatest friendships are not defined by records alone but by loyalty and care beyond the field.
