New Zealand swashbuckler Tim Seifert equalled Andre Russell’s record for the fastest century in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and smashed the second-highest score in the competition’s history. Seifert hammered a 53-ball 125* to gun down the 205-run target set by Antigua and Barbuda Falcons and guided St Lucia Kings to a six-wicket win with 13 balls to spare, pulling off the fifth-highest chase in CPL.
Seifert celebrated his ton in just 40 balls, going level with Russell’s effort for Jamaica Tallawahs against Trinbago Knight Riders in 2018. The 30-year-old wicketkeeper-batter showed intent from the start, beginning the chase with a six over long-off. Johnson Charles added to the fiery opening with a towering maximum before falling for 17(9).
Seifert’s Powerplay Assault Creates New CPL Record
The Kings pummelled the Falcons by smashing 92 runs in the powerplay, the most this season and the third-highest in CPL history. Seifert swept Shakib Al Hasan for a six before Pakistan spinner Usama Mir conceded a four and a six in his opening over after the restrictions. Seifert and Roston Chase kept the scoreboard ticking, though Odean Smith dismissed Chase for 11(10) with Irshad taking a sharp catch at short leg.
Seifert powered ahead by hitting back-to-back sixes off Mir to move to 99 and then reached his hundred with a single. His celebration marked a historic moment as he joined Andre Russell at the top of the CPL fastest century list.
Seifert Finishes with Second-Highest CPL Score
Australia’s Tim David briefly joined the carnage with six, four and six off Odean Smith, but Jayden Seales dismissed him at deep midwicket. Amid the chaos, Seifert remained calm and continued his hitting spree. He finished unbeaten on 125, registering the second-highest score in CPL history, only behind Brandon King’s 132* for Guyana Amazon Warriors against Barbados Tridents in 2019.
Seifert’s record-equalling ton and match-winning knock ensured St Lucia Kings pulled off one of the most remarkable chases in the tournament, leaving fans in awe of his explosive batting.
