England Draft Sam Curran for T20I Series Against South Africa and Ireland

England have made significant adjustments to their T20I squads for the upcoming series against South Africa and Ireland. Left-arm all-rounder Sam Curran has been drafted into both squads following his impressive form in domestic cricket. His return provides England with an in-form all-rounder capable of delivering with both bat and ball.

Curran replaces opener Ben Duckett, who has been rested for the South Africa leg. The selectors are clearly looking to balance player workload while also rewarding form. Curran’s inclusion marks his first England appearance of 2025, as his last outing in white-ball cricket came during the November 2024 tour of the West Indies.

Sam Curran’s Impactful Domestic Performances

Curran has been one of the standout players in domestic competitions this year. In the ongoing T20 Blast, the all-rounder has piled up 365 runs and claimed 21 wickets in 15 matches, making him one of the most effective performers of the season.

He also played a central role in Oval Invincibles’ title-winning campaign in The Hundred, where he contributed 238 runs and 12 wickets in nine matches. With such consistent displays, his return to the national setup was inevitable.

Matthew Potts Released

Meanwhile, pacer Matthew Potts has been released from the England squad to represent Durham in the County Championship. The move allows Potts to gain valuable red-ball game time, with England’s selectors keen to balance both formats.
