Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has spoken about his journey of sharing the field with cricket greats Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Since making his Test debut in 2023, Jaiswal has not only opened the innings with Rohit but has also built partnerships with Kohli, gaining valuable experience alongside the two stalwarts.
Rohit Sharma’s Guidance for Jaiswal
The duo of Rohit and Jaiswal has put together 1269 runs in 28 innings, forming a reliable opening stand for India. Reflecting on Rohit’s role in his growth, Jaiswal credited the former Test captain for shaping his mindset and improving his game.
“I really enjoy being with Rohit bhai. He has taught me so much and helped me a lot in developing myself, both mentally and overall. He is truly an amazing human being. When you are around him or talk to him, you learn a lot — in fact, just by watching him, you can learn so much,” said Jaiswal.
Jaiswal also emphasized how Rohit’s presence has been a source of inspiration and mentorship for him both on and off the pitch.
Virat Kohli’s Humor and Sharp Observations
While Jaiswal found a mentor in Rohit, his time with Virat Kohli was filled with lighter moments. Across 10 innings, Jaiswal and Kohli added 361 runs, but the southpaw noted that the real takeaway was Kohli’s energy and wit.
“Paaji is amazing, really strong. I’ve batted with him many times. He’s so much fun, and he’s really funny too. If you spend time with him, you’ll just keep laughing, it’s a different level altogether. If he tells you something about someone, he’ll explain it in full detail — it’s incredible. He’s so sharp. Like, if you ask me to explain something in a funny way, I might try but it won’t come out funny. But if he says it, then 100 percent you’ll end up laughing for sure,” said Jaiswal.
The youngster described Kohli as someone who could effortlessly lift the mood of the team with his sharp sense of humor.
End of an Era with Rohit and Kohli
Jaiswal also had the chance to be part of Rohit and Kohli’s final Test series before they both retired from the longest format in May 2025. For him, those partnerships were more than just runs on the board—they were priceless opportunities to learn from two of India’s greatest cricketers.
