The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially raised concerns with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over Fakhar Zaman’s contentious dismissal in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4s match against India at Dubai International Stadium. Fakhar, promoted to the opening slot, looked dangerous against Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, scoring 15 runs before being caught behind by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson. The third umpire, Ruchira Palliyaguruge, after reviewing multiple replays, ruled him out.
PCB officials, including team manager Naveed Cheema, claim the ball may have bounced before reaching Sanju Samson, arguing Fakhar should not have been declared out. The board has formally written to the ICC requesting an investigation into the decision.
Ongoing Tensions Between PCB and ICC
This complaint comes after prior disagreements, including Pakistan’s attempt to remove match referee Andy Pycroft during the group stage. The ICC refused to act, citing tournament protocols, while the PCB cited miscommunication by the official. The ongoing disputes have led Pakistan to skip pre-match press conferences and limit media interactions during the tournament.
Pakistan will next face Sri Lanka in a crucial Super 4 encounter on September 23, needing a win to keep their Asia Cup hopes alive. The controversy surrounding Fakhar Zaman’s dismissal has added extra pressure on the team as they aim to recover from their six-wicket defeat against India.
