Shahid Afridi Slams Umpire for Fakhar Zaman’s Asia Cup 2025 Controversial Dismissal

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi launched a scathing attack on the umpire after Fakhar Zaman’s controversial dismissal in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash against India. Fakhar was adjudged caught behind off Hardik Pandya, but replays left fans and experts divided.

Speaking on Samaa TV, Afridi alleged bias in the decision. “Unhone IPL me bhi toh umpiring karni hai [He has to umpire in the IPL too],” Afridi remarked, accusing the official of favouring India.

The dismissal was referred to the third umpire, who relied on limited slow-motion replays before confirming the call. Fakhar, who had scored 15 from nine balls, walked off shaking his head in disbelief.

Afridi, Yusuf Raise Concerns

Afridi’s criticism was backed by former Pakistan great Mohammad Yusuf. “They didn’t even check many angles. Fakhar had hit three fours and handled Bumrah with ease in the first over. His wicket was crucial for India,” Yusuf insisted.

Pace legend Shoaib Akhtar also questioned the process. “Fakhar wasn’t out. With 26 cameras available, why did the third umpire only check two angles? If Fakhar had stayed, the match might have turned,” Akhtar argued.

Pakistan Lodges Formal Protest

Pakistan’s team manager Naveed Akram Cheema officially complained to the match referee over the controversial decision. According to Samaa TV, the protest highlighted that the TV umpire ignored several angles and lacked “clear and conclusive” proof.

As Fakhar returned to the dugout, he spoke briefly with head coach Mike Hesson, who gestured in frustration at the call. Pakistan management maintained that the ruling unfairly benefited India and left the batter visibly aggrieved.

The dismissal has sparked strong debate, with Pakistan demanding better use of technology and accountability in major ICC tournaments.
