The Indian Premier League (IPL) has reached a new financial milestone, with its overall valuation climbing by 12.9 percent to USD 18.5 billion, or approximately Rs 1.58 lakh crore. This data comes from a recent report by global investment bank Houlihan Lokey, which also states that IPL’s standalone brand value rose by 13.8 percent to USD 3.9 billion in the last year.
The tournament has continued to attract strong interest from brands and sponsors. The BCCI’s sale of four associate sponsor slots — My11Circle, Angel One, RuPay, and CEAT — brought in Rs 1,485 crore, marking a 25 percent increase from the previous cycle. In another major development, the IPL renewed its title sponsorship deal with Tata Group until 2028, locking in a five-year agreement worth USD 300 million (around Rs 2,500 crore).
RCB Tops Franchise Rankings as Brand Values Surge
In terms of franchise brand value, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the IPL 2025 champions, emerged as the most valuable team with a valuation of USD 269 million, up from USD 227 million last year. Mumbai Indians secured second place with a brand value of USD 242 million, rising from USD 204 million in 2024.
Chennai Super Kings, which held the top spot in previous years, dropped to third with a valuation of USD 235 million. Punjab Kings showed the highest growth rate among franchises, recording a 39.6 percent increase in brand value from last year.
Record Viewership and Diversified Sponsorships Drive Growth
The IPL 2025 final shattered viewership records, drawing over 67.8 crore views on Jio Cinema, even surpassing the highly anticipated India-Pakistan Champions Trophy 2025 clash.
Commenting on the report, Harsh Talikoti, Director at Houlihan Lokey, said, “The IPL continues to set benchmarks in sports business. Franchise valuations have soared, media rights deals have reached record highs, and brand partnerships have diversified across sectors.”
With increasing investments, audience engagement, and global reach, the IPL’s financial momentum shows no signs of slowing down, solidifying its place as one of the world’s most valuable sports leagues.
