Shubman Gill’s composed behavior during the fourth Test against England in Manchester has earned praise from former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif. After being criticized for mimicking Virat Kohli‘s aggressive style at Lord’s, Gill showed maturity and poise, especially under pressure. His century in the second innings played a crucial role in India forcing a draw, keeping the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series alive.
Kaif highlighted Gill’s changed demeanor, stating that the 25-year-old understood the importance of staying true to his nature. “Whenever the camera zoomed in on him, he looked calm. He realized trying to impersonate Kohli didn’t work. He showed temperament and clarity in his batting,” said Kaif on his YouTube channel.
Kaif Calls for Kuldeep Yadav’s Inclusion at the Oval
Kaif also criticized team India’s decision to bench Kuldeep Yadav in Manchester. He believes Kuldeep’s left-arm spin was essential, especially with the pitch conditions not offering much to pacers.
“Kuldeep not playing was a huge mistake. You need 20 wickets to win, and Kuldeep should play at the Oval no matter the conditions,” Kaif added.
India trail the series 1-2 and must win the final Test at the Oval to level the series.
