With Australia needing 3 runs off the final ball, Dan Christian attempted to take a risky second run after squeezing Wayne Parnell’s yorker to long-on. But de Villiers, charging in with the speed and accuracy of a player half his age, fired a rocket throw to the stumps. Nathan Coulter-Nile was run out by a mile, leaving the scores level and pushing South Africa through to the final on countback.

De Villiers, captaining the South African side, now faces an unbeaten Pakistan team in the final. Pakistan had already secured their place after receiving a walkover in the other semifinal.
