AB de Villiers Fires South Africa to WCL 2025 Title Amid PCB’s Explosive Exit from Tournament

South Africa Champions dismantled Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends 2025 final in Birmingham. The Proteas chased down 195 in just 16.5 overs, thanks to an explosive unbeaten 120 by skipper AB de Villiers.

Pakistan posted a solid 195/5, with Sharjeel Khan smashing 76 off 44. But their bowlers had no answers for AB’s assault. This emphatic win secured South Africa the WCL 2025 title, while the tournament itself ended in a cloud of controversy.

Raina Praises AB, Supports India’s Boycott Against Pakistan

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina praised AB de Villiers’ knock while backing India’s decision to skip matches vs Pakistan.

“What a knock by @ABdeVilliers17 in the final, absolutely smashed it. Had we played, we would’ve crushed them too, but we chose our nation above everything else. Full respect to @EaseMyTrip and @nishantpitti for standing firm and not supporting any match involving them. That’s real character,” wrote Raina on X.

India Champions, led by Yuvraj Singh, boycotted both the league and semi-final matches against Pakistan in protest. The reason cited was the April 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

PCB Condemns WCL, Cites “Bias” and Forfeiture Favouritism

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a full ban on future participation in the World Championship of Legends. The PCB slammed WCL’s decision to award points to India despite them forfeiting their matches against Pakistan.

“The PCB, during its 79th BoG meeting held virtually under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi reviewed with considerable disappointment WCL’s appalling conduct of awarding points to a willfully forfeiting team, and the content of the press releases of the WCL announcing the cancellation of the scheduled India vs. Pakistan legends matches, which were tainted with hypocrisy and bias.”

The PCB’s withdrawal casts doubt over the WCL’s credibility moving forward, despite South Africa’s commanding title win.
