BCCI Grooms Vaibhav Suryavanshi to Replace Kohli, Rohit Amid Transition Plans in Indian Cricket

The BCCI has launched a special training program for Vaibhav Suryavanshi to groom him as India’s future cricket star.
This move comes amid growing buzz around the potential retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from international cricket.

Vaibhav, just 14, has impressed with consistent performances in IPL 2025 and India’s U-19 tour of England this summer.
After a brief stint with Rajasthan Royals, he joined the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru on August 10.

As per reports, BCCI’s programme involves intense technical training and match-specific scenario simulations at the NCA.
Vaibhav’s childhood coach, Manish Ojha, confirmed this initiative is part of India’s succession plan in red-ball and white-ball formats.

“Senior players are retiring slowly. BCCI is preparing players like Vaibhav to fill that vacuum,” Ojha explained.
“This isn’t just for the Australia series. It’s long-term planning for Indian cricket’s future.”

The development comes as speculation rises over Kohli and Rohit’s final stint, possibly during the Australia tour.
While a report suggests their ODI careers could hinge on domestic form ahead of the 2027 World Cup, BCCI remains cautious.
A senior official stated that decisions around senior players will depend on Asia Cup performance and T20 World Cup plans.

Vaibhav’s training in Bengaluru will last a week before he rejoins the India U-19 squad for their next series.
The coaching staff is now focused on building his consistency in red-ball cricket to complement his white-ball excellence.

Ojha added, “He can dominate from ball one in T20s and ODIs. But in longer formats, he must raise his game.”
With IPL and U-19 success behind him, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s journey now aligns with Indian cricket’s generational shift.
