Reports suggest that Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has requested a release or trade before the IPL 2026 mini-auction.
The decision follows RR’s backing of younger players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi during IPL 2025.
Robin Uthappa said Samson likely saw the “writing on the wall” as he might be forced to bat at No. 4.

Robin Uthappa believes CSK can secure Samson by trading Ravichandran Ashwin and Vijay Shankar to Rajasthan Royals.
He pointed out that CSK lack a solid finisher and suggested this deal could benefit both franchises.
“If they can get him, it completes the Dhoni transition. It’s a smart move for CSK,” Uthappa said.
Ashwin, a former CSK star, has a lower valuation than Samson, making a direct swap unlikely.
Including Vijay Shankar, who’s underutilized at CSK, may help balance the trade.
