Deepti Sharma Targets Milestone Ahead of India vs South Africa Showdown

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma is on the brink of creating history in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. She is just four wickets away from becoming only the second Indian woman to complete 150 wickets in ODIs, following in the footsteps of legend Jhulan Goswami.

Team India, undefeated so far with wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan, now prepare to battle South Africa. The Proteas have regained momentum after their opening loss to England, defeating New Zealand thanks to Tazmin Brits’ stunning century.

Deepti’s Impactful World Cup Form

Deepti has been instrumental in India’s success, delivering consistent performances with both ball and bat. So far, she has picked up six wickets in two matches — three in each outing — at an average slightly above 16, with her best figures being 3/45. Her all-round brilliance also includes 78 runs in two innings, highlighted by a crucial 53 against Sri Lanka.

Across her 114-match ODI career, Deepti has taken 146 wickets at an average of 27.92, with a personal best of 6/20 and three five-wicket hauls to her name.

Following the Path of Jhulan Goswami

In India’s bowling records, only Jhulan Goswami stands ahead of her. The former pacer claimed 255 wickets in 204 matches, maintaining an impressive average of 22.04. Jhulan remains the highest wicket-taker in women’s ODI cricket, and Deepti now looks set to become the next name in that elite list.

As India continue their unbeaten run in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, Deepti’s form will play a decisive role in their campaign against South Africa.
