Dewald Brevis, fondly known as Baby AB, became a surprise trump card for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. The five-time champions were struggling when Gurjapneet Singh’s injury marred their campaign, forcing them to bring in Brevis as an injury replacement. The move proved golden as Brevis delivered with impactful performances for CSK.
Except for a single setback against RCB (0), the right-hand batter impressed in almost every outing. In six matches, Brevis smashed 225 runs at a strike rate of 153, hitting 13 fours and 17 sixes. His efforts also included two half-centuries, establishing his importance in CSK’s late-season revival.
Brevis Reflects on His IPL Journey
Speaking to AB de Villiers on YouTube, Brevis called his stint with CSK “incredible” and unforgettable.
“I’ll always remember like, whenever I tell people it’s amazing. I had amazing times, my four years [in IPL]. It was incredible,” Brevis told De Villiers.
The 22-year-old revealed that his experience with the Yellow Army will remain one of the most special chapters of his cricketing journey.
Special Bond With MS Dhoni
Brevis highlighted how MS Dhoni’s personality off the field left a lasting impact on him.
“And I had to go through all of the journey like it’s been beautiful, and the one thing that I can just say from MS Dhoni is his humbleness and who he is as a person that stood out for me. How he is basically off the field, the time he has for players, for people,” Brevis added.
He further opened up about Dhoni’s open-door nature in the team hotel during IPL 2025.
“His room door is always open. If he’s sleeping, that’s the only time it’s closed. And I found myself a few times in his room just sitting there with whatever he’s busy like chatting to him about his hobbies, watching cricket, and yeah, that’s just amazing and just to see how what he does like off the field and like everyone knows what he does on the field and at training and yeah just it’s very special,” Brevis concluded.
Brevis’ Future With CSK
After leaving a strong mark in IPL 2025, Brevis could be in CSK’s long-term plans as they build for the future. With MS Dhoni’s mentorship and his own explosive batting, Brevis may well become a permanent fixture in the Yellow Army.
