Ellyse Perry Injury Update: Healy Confirms No Worries Before Women’s World Cup

Australia began their ODI series against India with a dominant eight-wicket win, but much of the focus turned to Ellyse Perry’s calf injury. The star all-rounder retired hurt during her innings in New Chandigarh, sparking World Cup concerns. However, skipper Alyssa Healy quickly dismissed any panic, clarifying that Perry was only dealing with cramps.

“She is just old, she is fine,” Healy remarked lightheartedly after the game, as quoted from the official ICC website.

Litchfield’s Brilliance Guides Australia

Perry’s absence opened the door for youngster Phoebe Litchfield, who seized the moment with a stunning 88 off 80 balls. Her aggressive stroke play, including well-executed switch-hits, ensured Australia hunted down India’s 281/7 with ease and more than five overs to spare.

“Phoebe was outstanding, and everyone contributed beautifully and kept the scoring rate up,” Healy said.

Litchfield, named Player of the Match, praised conditions in India and the team’s batting approach.
“The conditions over here are nice for batting. You get some really flat pitches,” she said.
“A lot of practice has gone into that (switch-hit) shot. To chase it down with balls to spare is a really cool thing.”

Harmanpreet Kaur Reflects on Missed Chances

For India, captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted her side’s mistakes proved costly. Despite winning the toss and opting to bat, India failed to make full use of their chances in the field.

“We were 20-30 runs short,” Harmanpreet Kaur admitted.
“Our bowlers were trying to create opportunities but we were not able to capitalise on those opportunities and they played really good cricket,” she added.

India and Australia will now clash again in the second ODI at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
