Guyana Amazon Warriors demolish Antigua and Barbuda Falcons by 83 runs in CPL 2025

Guyana Amazon Warriors continued their winning form in CPL 2025, beating Antigua and Barbuda Falcons by 83 runs at North Sound. The commanding victory was powered by explosive batting and a lethal spin attack.

The Warriors posted a daunting 211/3 in 20 overs. Shai Hope stroked 82 off 54, while Shimron Hetmyer smashed 65 off just 26 deliveries*, and Romario Shepherd provided a fiery finish with 25 off 8 balls*. These performances helped Guyana score an awe-inspiring 145 runs in the last nine overs.

Hope and Hetmyer turn the tide

Hope and Hetmyer stitched together a powerful partnership that changed the course of the innings. Despite an early wicket for Ben McDermott and a slow start from Kevlon Anderson, Hope survived a close run-out before launching his innings. He punished Obed McCoy over the ropes, followed by two boundary strikes that boosted momentum. A brief rain delay stalled the game, but no overs were lost.

Hetmyer joined the assault in the 12th over, smacking Usama Mir for two sixes. Hope also blasted two sixes in the same over and raced to his fifty. By the time he was dismissed at the end of the 18th over, the Warriors had already surged ahead.

Tahir’s magical spell dismantles Falcons

When the Falcons came out to chase, Imran Tahir turned back the clock with a career-best 5/21, including a maiden over. He ripped through the middle and lower order, striking early with a smart googly to dismiss Shakib Al Hasan, and then took down captain Imad Wasim in a double-wicket maiden. Tahir added Shamar Springer, Usama Mir, Obed McCoy, and helped wrap up the innings with a brilliant five-wicket haul.

Karima Gore (31 off 14) and Bevon Jacobs (26) were the only Falcons to offer resistance. Even then, the collapse was rapid and complete, with the team bowled out for just 128 in 15.2 overs.
