Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has strongly criticized Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi for withholding the Asia Cup 2025 trophy after India’s thrilling five-wicket victory over Pakistan in Dubai. The trophy presentation was delayed by almost an hour as a deadlock persisted, with Naqvi refusing to hand over the silverware to the winning side. While individual awards for Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Kuldeep Yadav were given, the trophy itself remained in Naqvi’s possession, sparking widespread outrage.
Naqvi Walks Away With Trophy, Harbhajan Reacts
Naqvi reportedly left the stadium with the trophy, which is now secured at ACC headquarters. Harbhajan slammed the PCB chief, stating that he is not “big enough” to decide whether India should receive the trophy. He assured fans that India’s victory is undisputed, saying, “India won the tournament, and that is their biggest trophy. If not today, then tomorrow the trophy will be given, so what’s the point of keeping it aside?”
ACC Meeting and BCCI’s Next Moves
Following the tournament, the ACC held a meeting where Naqvi was questioned by BCCI representatives Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar. Naqvi did not provide a direct answer and refused to apologize, suggesting that India could collect the trophy from ACC headquarters. The BCCI has confirmed it will raise the matter with the ICC in a meeting scheduled for November 2025. India’s dominance was clear throughout the tournament, having defeated Pakistan in all three encounters, with the final showcasing Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership and the team’s unmatched performance.
