The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) semi-final has triggered a fresh storm, both on and off the field. Scheduled for July 31, the knockout match has reignited political tensions, following India’s earlier refusal to play Pakistan in the group stage due to the Pahalgam terror attack. With emotions running high, top sponsor EaseMyTrip has decided to withdraw support from the match.
Nishant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, took to social media to announce the decision, citing national sentiment and ethical responsibility. “The upcoming semi-final against Pakistan is not just another game. Terror and cricket cannot go hand in hand,” he said. Emphasizing the stance further, Pitti added, “Nation first, business later. Always.”
The travel platform’s move echoes a section of public opinion in India, which has consistently opposed cricketing ties with Pakistan in light of ongoing security concerns.
WCL Match in Limbo as Dhawan Declines to Play
The WCL organizing committee has yet to release an official statement on whether the semi-final will proceed as planned. Adding to the uncertainty, India Champions player Shikhar Dhawan earlier stated that he would not participate if India were to face Pakistan in the knockouts.
“You’re asking this question at the wrong time and place — you shouldn’t have asked it. And as I didn’t play earlier, I still won’t play now,” Dhawan said in a strong reaction when asked about his stance on the potential match.
India secured a spot in the semi-finals by finishing fourth in the group stage, winning their final game against the West Indies Champions. Pakistan topped the table and were set to meet India based on the tournament bracket.
As of now, the fate of the match remains undecided, but one thing is clear: this semi-final is far more than just a cricket game — it’s a clash of politics, public sentiment, and sport.
