India Women made history on Wednesday by winning their first-ever T20I series against England. With a six-wicket win in the fourth match, the visitors took an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. This landmark victory also marks their first T20I series win over England, both home and away, since their only T20I win in Derby back in 2006.
The Indian spin attack played a key role in the triumph. Radha Yadav picked up 2 for 15, Shree Charani took 2 for 30, and Deepti Sharma claimed 1 for 29. Together, they helped restrict England to 126 for 7 in their 20 overs.
Openers Shafali Verma (32) and Smriti Mandhana (31) then laid the perfect foundation with a quick 56-run stand. India chased down the target with ease, reaching the total in just 17 overs and sealing a memorable win.
Harmanpreet proud of team effort and execution
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was all smiles after the match. She praised the team for executing their plans well and playing with confidence throughout the series.
“We are really grateful we were able to do this. I’m proud of the team and the way everyone contributed. Our preparation back home really helped,” said Kaur during the post-match presentation.
India began the series with a record 97-run win and followed it with another strong 24-run victory in Bristol, handing England their first T20I loss at the venue. Despite losing the third match narrowly, they bounced back in style in the fourth.
England, led by stand-in skipper Tammy Beaumont, struggled against India’s spin attack. The hosts were under pressure early and couldn’t build momentum after losing both openers during the powerplay.
India’s strong performance in the field, both with the ball and bat, gives them a big boost ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England next year. The final match of the series will be played at Edgbaston on Saturday.
