Ishan Kishan Declines BCCI’s Offer Due to Injury

The BCCI had initially approached Ishan Kishan to replace Rishabh Pant for the remaining matches of the England Test series. With Pant ruled out due to injury, the selectors saw Kishan as the ideal backup, especially after his recent form in the County Championship where he scored 87 and 77 for Nottinghamshire.

However, Kishan turned down the offer, citing an ankle injury. Reports suggest the injury occurred in an unusual accident when Kishan fell off a scooty, resulting in stitches on his left ankle. This ruled him out of flying to England and participating in the final Test of the series, despite being BCCI’s first-choice replacement.

N Jagadeesan Set to Join Indian Squad

With Kishan unavailable, the selectors are now set to include Tamil Nadu’s N Jagadeesan in the squad. The 27-year-old right-handed wicketkeeper-batter has played 52 first-class matches, scoring 3,373 runs and notching up 133 catches and 14 stumpings.

Jagadeesan is expected to join the Indian team ahead of the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Though Kishan’s absence is a setback, Jagadeesan’s domestic experience is likely to bolster India’s keeping department in Pant’s absence.
