Kane Williamson has ended the long-standing Fab Four debate by calling Virat Kohli the greatest all-format cricketer since 2010. In a recent conversation with Sky Sports, the former New Zealand captain praised Kohli’s remarkable consistency and influence across formats.
“Virat is probably the greatest all-format player we’ve seen in the last 15 years,” Williamson said. He also spoke about the pressure Kohli handled while leading in a cricket-obsessed country like India and still managing to perform at the highest level.
Williamson added that their relationship was never about rivalry. Instead, it was about mutual respect and the shared goal of helping their teams succeed. “It wasn’t really a competitive thing,” he said. “You just want to compete as a team.”
A Bond Beyond Cricket
Williamson also reflected on how their bond has grown beyond cricket. “It’s not just about playing. We’ve been living lives in parallel in many ways,” he said. The Kiwi batter noted that as they’ve grown older, their connection has become stronger through similar life experiences.
While Kohli retired from Test cricket earlier this year, Williamson continues to play international cricket, although he has stepped down from white-ball captaincy and opted out of New Zealand’s central contracts.
Meanwhile, India is in action against England at Lord’s. With Kohli now living in London, Shubman Gill has taken over the No. 4 spot and impressed with three centuries in five innings, including a double ton. The Test series is level at 1-1 as India aims to gain the upper hand at the iconic venue.
