New Zealand Squad Announced for ICC Women’s World Cup 2025

New Zealand squad led by Sophie Devine will compete in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in India and Sri Lanka. The 15-member squad includes six first-time 50-over World Cup players and four making their senior ICC debuts. Coach Ben Sawyer praised the team’s balance and readiness, saying, “A huge congratulations to all 15 players named to represent New Zealand at this World Cup. I’m really pleased with the balance of the squad. I think we’ve got the right mix to tackle what we’ll come up against in terms of conditions and opposition. Having no international cricket in our calendar since April has given us the ability to work really hard on our physical skills in particular, which is something that could be the difference in India.”

Experienced Core Returns for Final World Cup

All-rounder Sophie Devine captains New Zealand at her fifth World Cup and will retire from ODI cricket afterward. Suzie Bates, also playing in her fifth 50-over World Cup, adds experience with pace bowler Lea Tahuhu in her fourth. Maddy Green and Melie Kerr feature in their third World Cup appearances, giving the squad a dependable core with big tournament experience.

Twenty-two-year-old all-rounder Flora Devonshire earns her maiden ODI call-up after strong domestic performances in the latest home summer. She joins seven others new to major ICC events, highlighting the squad’s transitional phase since the 2022 edition.

Coach Confident Ahead of Opening Match Against Australia

Ben Sawyer emphasized the preparation and adaptability of the squad. He believes their focus on fitness and skills during the long international break will provide an advantage in Indian conditions. With a blend of experienced stars and new talent, the White Ferns aim for a strong campaign.

New Zealand begin their World Cup journey against defending champions Australia in Indore on October 1. The full squad reads: Sophie Devine (c), Suzie Bates, Eden Carson, Flora Devonshire, Izzy Gaze, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, Bella James, Melie Kerr, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Georgia Plimmer, Lea Tahuhu.
