India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2025 and the home Test series against West Indies. According to the Times of India, Pant suffered a toe fracture during the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England in Manchester.
The 17th edition of the Asia Cup will take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28. Less than a week later, India will host the West Indies for two Tests between October 2 and 14.
Pant sustained the injury when a yorker from Chris Woakes struck his foot during India’s batting at Old Trafford. He was taken off the field for scans, which confirmed a fracture. Despite the injury, Pant returned the next day and scored a fighting fifty to help India draw the match.
The Times of India reported, “Pant will not be part of either event after suffering from a toe fracture.” It further added, “He would not require any surgery.”
Recovery Timeline and Impact on India’s Schedule
The 26-year-old missed the final Test at The Oval, where India secured a thrilling six-run victory to level the five-match series 2-2. The medical team expects him to be out for six weeks.
India will begin their Asia Cup campaign against UAE on September 10 in Dubai. Group A features India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. This edition will follow the T20 format ahead of the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
