Saint Lucia Kings defeated Trinbago Knight Riders by 7 wickets in CPL 2025 to secure playoff qualification. The Kings chased down the target in just 11.1 overs, with their spinners setting up a dominant win. Tabraiz Shamsi starred with three wickets, while Khary Pierre and Roston Chase grabbed two each.
TKR Struggle Against Spin
Trinbago Knight Riders got off to a poor start. Colin Munro departed in the second ball to Khary Pierre. Darren Bravo struck a couple of boundaries but perished soon after with a mistimed shot to fine leg. Nicholas Pooran, despite surviving a few close calls, smashed two sixes off David Wiese to lift TKR’s hopes.
However, Alex Hales fell on the last ball of the PowerPlay. Shamsi then made an immediate impact by dismissing Akeal Hosein for a golden duck. Pooran edged Roston Chase to the wicketkeeper, leaving TKR reeling at five down inside 10 overs.
Andre Russell’s counterattack was brief as Shamsi bowled him with a perfect delivery. The spinner also removed Kieron Pollard cheaply to leave TKR in deep trouble at 82. Lower-order resistance from Terrence Hinds and Nathan Edwards took them past 100. Yet Delano Potgeiter struck twice, and Alzarri Joseph wrapped up the innings at 109 in 18.1 overs.
Kings Seal Easy Chase
Tim Seifert gave Saint Lucia Kings a flying start, smashing 14 runs off the first over with two boundaries and a six. Johnson Charles fell to Sunil Narine, but Seifert and Ackeem Auguste added a vital 40-run stand. Auguste attacked with fearless strokeplay, including a 20-run over against Andre Russell.
Seifert scored a quick 36, while Auguste contributed 28 before Narine dismissed him. Roston Chase added timely boundaries, and David Wiese finished the chase with two massive sixes. The Kings wrapped up the target in 11.1 overs, completing a resounding victory with 53 balls to spare.
