As the Indian team gears up for the third Test at Lord’s, changes in the batting lineup are being considered. Karun Nair, who played in the first two Tests, has failed to deliver and may be replaced at the crucial number three spot. Young left-hander Sai Sudharsan, who was dropped after just one match, is being backed for a return.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar expressed disappointment over Sudharsan’s omission. He said the youngster played decently in his debut and should have been given more chances. “I thought Sai Sudharsan deserved another opportunity. He looked promising and could be a long-term option,” Manjrekar said on ESPNcricinfo.
Manjrekar added that Karun Nair doesn’t seem like a natural number three batter. “He is not a number three player in my view. Sai fits that role better,” he added.
Nair could be moved down the order
While suggesting Sudharsan’s return, Manjrekar also supported giving Nair another chance—perhaps lower in the batting order. “It’s not fair to drop Karun completely. Maybe Nitish Kumar Reddy could make way and Karun can bat down the order,” he said.
The team management, led by coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill, is expected to take a final call before the Lord’s Test begins. With the series level at 1-1, India will be aiming to field their best possible XI to take the lead.
