Wasim Akram Criticizes Pakistan After Loss to India in Asia Cup 2025

Former captain Wasim Akram expressed deep frustration after Pakistan’s defeat to India in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Fours. He admitted that watching Pakistan get outclassed by India for several years has been painful, highlighting the stark difference in quality between the two sides.

India Take Charge in Dubai

Pakistan showed early promise with a record Powerplay score of 90, but the innings soon lost momentum and closed at 171 for five. In the chase, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill put on 105 runs for the first wicket in under 10 overs, giving India complete control and extending their winning streak against Pakistan to four consecutive T20Is since 2022.

Akram’s Honest Reaction

Akram did not mince his words when evaluating Pakistan’s display.
“I am going to speak my heart out. It is tough to watch Pakistan. I understand as an ex-player winning and losing that part of the game. But again India has outplayed Pakistan in every department over the last four or five years. Once or twice, we have won here and there, but it has been incredible from India. The talent, the depth, everything. One or two catches can be dropped in any game, that is fine. But from 91 in the first 10 overs, when we fail to reach 200, there is nothing to say,” Akram told the broadcasters.

Nawaz’s Costly Mistake

The legendary pacer was particularly stunned by Mohammad Nawaz’s careless run-out in the 19th over.
“Unbelievable. I’m literally speechless,” Akram remarked on commentary.

The dismissal came when Salman Ali Agha pushed the ball towards square leg. Varun Chakaravarthy missed a direct hit, but Suryakumar Yadav quickly gathered and hit the stumps. Nawaz, walking lazily back to the crease, was caught short, leaving fans and coach Mike Hesson furious.

Pakistan’s Growing Woes

This latest defeat once again exposed Pakistan’s inconsistency and inability to finish strong. Akram stressed that without urgent improvements, the widening gulf with India will only deepen.
