England opener Zak Crawley has responded to the heated moment involving India’s Shubman Gill during the third Test at Lord’s. The altercation, which included Gill yelling an expletive caught on the stump mic, stirred controversy. Speaking after Day 2 of the fourth Test in Manchester, Crawley said the issue was a misunderstanding and denied accusations of time-wasting.
Crawley explained, “It wasn’t intentional. I usually sit in my spot until the umpires walk out. I went out when I saw them. I wasn’t aware we were 90 seconds late, but fair enough.”
The clash between the two players became a talking point, especially after Gill accused Crawley of deliberately delaying the restart.
Crawley Enjoyed the Competitive Spirit
Crawley admitted he enjoyed the fiery exchange with Gill. “I’ve always liked that part of cricket, especially as a batter. It’s two against eleven and they’re desperate to get you out. I loved that little eight-minute passage. No one crossed the line. It was good competitive cricket,” he said.
He also reserved high praise for Rishabh Pant, who batted courageously on Day 2 despite a foot injury. “Not many people in the world could bat like that on one foot,” Crawley remarked.
Meanwhile, England took control of the game on Day 2 of the fourth Test. After restricting India to 358, they posted 225/2 at stumps with Ollie Pope (20*) and Joe Root (11*) unbeaten. England’s Ben Stokes picked up his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket since 2017, while openers Crawley and Ben Duckett added a strong 166-run stand.
