Usually known for his quiet aggression, Bumrah didn’t show much emotion after dismissing Jofra Archer to complete his 15th Test five-for. There was no fist pump or smile, just a walk back to his mark. The subdued moment sparked conversations among viewers and former players alike.
When asked about it during the post-match press conference, Bumrah revealed the real reason. “The reality is that I was tired. There was no happiness factor. I bowled for a long time. I’m not 21-22 anymore that I’ll jump around,” he said. “I was happy that I contributed, but I just wanted to bowl the next ball.”
Bumrah had missed the previous Test due to workload management but returned to show why he remains India’s most reliable fast bowler. His spell on Day 2 included the key wickets of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Chris Woakes in quick succession, turning the match in India’s favor.
India steady at stumps as Pant returns despite injury
In reply to England’s 387, India ended Day 2 at 145 for 3. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 53, while Rishabh Pant batted bravely despite a finger injury, finishing the day on 19 not out.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early by Jofra Archer, who returned to Test cricket after more than four years. Karun Nair played a composed knock of 40 before falling to a brilliant catch by Joe Root. Shubman Gill, who scored centuries in both innings in the previous Test, managed only 16 in this one.
India still trail by 242 runs but have two experienced batters at the crease. With Bumrah’s fiery spell and a solid batting foundation, the visitors will look to take control on Day 3.
