Johnson Charles and Saint Lucia Kings are underway! Shaping back into the right-hander, low full toss, on middle, Charles knocks it to long on for a single to get off the mark.

Woah! Mayers looks to go full in search of some swing but ends up bowling a waist-high full toss, on off, Charles is taken aback and stabs it beside the strip on the leg side. A tight call in terms of height but the decision goes in the favour of the bowler.
All is in readiness for the action to kick off in Basseterre. Both umpires make their way out to the field, followed by the players of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, who form a last huddle and spread out to take their respective positions. Also, walk out the two openers of Saint Lucia Kings, where Johnson Charles will open the innings alongside Tim Seifert. Kyle Mayers has the new ball in his hands, and he will start the proceedings, with the keeper up to the stumps. Here we go...
Tim David of the Saint Lucia Kings is in for a chat. Feels that it makes a difference coming back to a ground where you have done well. Adds that the straight hit here is really short, so anything full he looks to target straight. Reckons that you have to be aware of the wind factor while hitting the square of the wicket. Out of the 11 sixes he hit here in the 3rd T20I against West Indies, he shares that he enjoyed the one he hit against Gudakesh Motie the most, and it gave him the confidence to keep going. Says that it has been a nice ride over the last couple of weeks and wants to keep going. States that you always have fun conversations in the Caribbean and likes the food here. Ends by saying that he loves swimming and is looking forward to the trip to a couple of islands.
PITCH REPORT - Danny Morrison is pitchside for the pitch report. He starts by saying the hurricane has passed, which is good news for cricket. Adds that the temperature is in the early 30s with a lovely breeze around the ground. Points out that a different pitch will be used today, with the square boundaries measuring 62 and 64 meters, while it’s 69 meters straight down the ground. Mentions that the surface looks quite shaven, and he reckons that the spinners will have a big role to play on what appears to be a good batting pitch.
The skipper of Saint Lucia Kings, David Wiese, believes that the captaincy does not add to the pressure as there are a lot of senior guys in the team. Mentions that Faf du Plessis has laid the foundation, and it is about picking up from there. Informs that Tim David comes in place of Aaron Jones. Adds that it is unfortunate for Jones to sit out without even playing, but we all know what David brings, and he had to come in after he was available for this game.
Jason Holder, the skipper of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, says that they will be bowling first. Says that the surface looks good, and they will see how it plays out. Informs that Navin Bidaisee is making his debut while Alick Athanaze misses out. Stresses that there is no pressure on the group, as the players are fully aware of the position they are in. Adds that the focus remains on taking each game as it comes, as they aren’t taking much pressure.
Saint Lucia Kings (Playing XI) - Johnson Charles, Tim Seifert (WK), Ackeem Auguste, Roston Chase, Tim David (In for Aaron Jones), Delano Potgieter, David Wiese (C), Alzarri Joseph, Keon Gaston, Khary Pierre, Tabraiz Shamsi.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (Playing XI) - Andre Fletcher (WK), Kyle Mayers, Rilee Rossouw, Mikyle Louis, Jason Holder (C), Jyd Goolie, Navin Bidaisee (On CPL debut) (In for Alick Athanaze), Dominic Drakes, Naseem Shah, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Waqar Salamkheil.
TOSS - St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have won the toss and they will BOWL first.
The Kings did the double over the Patriots in 2024. Can the Patriots turn things around and get their campaign back on track at home? Or will the Kings pick up right where they left off and begin their title defence with a statement win? Toss and teams coming up in a bit.
On the other hand, the Kings will be itching to get on the park, more so against the Patriots, a side they have beaten three times in their four completed meetings. Faf du Plessis, who led them to the title in 2024, has moved on, and the captaincy baton is now in the hands of their experienced all-rounder, David Wiese. Tim David wasn’t expected to feature in the campaign opener but has since linked up with the squad. Alongside him, Johnson Charles, Tim Seifert, and Roston Chase will be key with the bat, while the bowling attack will revolve around Matthew Forde, Alzarri Joseph, and Tabraiz Shamsi.
The Patriots began their campaign with a win on the opening night but have since slipped to two defeats in a row. Andre Fletcher has chipped in with a couple of useful knocks, but St Kitts and Nevis will need the likes of Evin Lewis, Alick Athanaze, Kyle Mayers, and Rilee Rossouw to step up with the bat. On the bowling front, left-arm wrist-spinner Waqar Salamkheil has been the standout so far, but Fazalhaq Farooqi has been expensive and will need to tighten up to click as a unit alongside Naseem Shah and skipper Jason Holder.
Hello, one and all! The action in the 2025 Caribbean Premier League resumes after a day’s break. We are at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts, for match number 6. With the weather looking good, we will finally get our first look at the defending champions, Saint Lucia Kings, as they lock horns with the home side, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
... MATCH DAY ...
The Caribbean Premier League, 2025 keeps hustling and bustling with the cricketing carnival delivering nail-biting moment aplenty already. The center of focus remains in Basseterre and North Sound, Antigua for the first leg of the season. Warner Park is back in action with another delicious clash on the cards as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots host the Saint Lucia Kings in Match 6. The Patriots have played three already so far, and have faced defeats in two. But, those defeats haven’t been walkovers for the opponents as Jason Holder and his men have displayed remarkable resilience and composure. In their previous game, their bowlers of course leaked runs through and through, but the batters kept the flame ignited in that 232-run chase. In the end, just 12 runs separated them and the Trinbago Knight Riders. It’s just about translating that promising showing into positive results as in a compact tournaments like these, facing three defeats on the bounce could really push one team really behind the race. And surely, Holder and his troops would want to avoid a negative trend early doors in the tournaments. Batting-wise, Andre Fletcher has helped to provide stable starts, and he remains to be the leading run-scorer from this side. However, with Evin Lewis getting retired hurt, it’s a huge opportunity for Kyle Mayers to prove himself. The biggest worry for them has been their middle order that has been inconsistent, though Rilee Rossouw and Jason Holder have kept runs coming. Anybody can have an off day with the ball, and last time around, the whole bowling unit was taken to the cleaners. But, in all fairness, their Powerplay bowling has also lacked control in all three matches so far, as they have conceded more than fifty runs on all three occasions. Amidst the carnage, Waqar Salamkheil has emerged as a promising prospect in the spin department, with Waqar bagging 7 wickets already in three outings. It’s their pace attack which has been wayward and loose in execution of plans, which, they would be keen to sort it out. While David Wiese and his troops had to share one point with the Falcons as their opening clash got abandoned due to rain. The only thing that happened in that fixture was the toss and we get an idea of what combination the Kings fielded. With Johnson Charles and Tim Seifert given the duties of fortifying the top order, Roston Chase along with skipper Weise himself, guard the middle order with their experience. While apart from these names, there’s a bit of inexperience in the batting unit with a couple of new faces in the team. While Tim David, when he joins the squad, will surely bolster the unit, especially after his brue-hitting in the T20I series against the Proteas. Bowling-wise, a lot will depend on the Alzarri Joseph, Matthew Forde and Tabraiz Shamsi to deliver in crunch times. The Patriots have managed to defeat the Kings only twice in their last six meets. Hence, Holder and his men have an opportunity to improve this scoreline. Gear up for another exciting fixture in Basseterre.
