Phew. This was quite a run-fest, wasn't it? But worry not, as this was just the first game of the double-header Sunday, where Trinbago Knight Riders kicked off their campaign with a win over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. This marks the second defeat for Jason Holder and his men, and they would go on the drawing board to assess where they went wrong. The action now shifts to North Sound, Antigua, in the Caribbean Premier League, 2025, as another exciting contest awaits you all. Antigua and Barbuda Falcons take on the Saint Lucia Kings, who will begin their journey in this edition. That game will begin in just a few hours' time from now on August 18, and the first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 11 pm GMT (the previous day). Till then, you can hop to the other matchcenters and follow all the live action from The Hundred, 2025. But from here, it's goodbye for now. Take care, cheers!
The skipper of Trinbago Knight Riders, Nicholas Pooran, says that the most important thing was getting the win. Admits that it is always challenging to win here, especially with the overnight rain that made conditions tricky after they lost the toss and had to bat first. Credits the openers for setting up the game beautifully, giving the team a solid start, and putting them in a good position. Points out that with so many experienced players in the squad, there’s no need to tell them how to play, as they already know how to adapt to the conditions, which is a big plus for the team. Speaks highly of Usman Tariq, mentioning that he played under him in the Abu Dhabi T10. Adds that alongside world-class spinners like Akeal Hosein and Sunil Narine, having Tariq in the mix gives them even more options. Stresses that while it is easy to take things for granted, the team must keep embracing the journey, reminding everyone that the tournament has just started. With Andre Russell set to return soon, Pooran believes the side will only get stronger.
The skipper of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Jason Holder, says that it was a tough game as the wicket played really well, and he gives full credit to Colin Munro for his brilliant innings. Admits that his side could have been tighter with the margins and cut off a few boundaries, but with the conditions favouring the batters, credit goes to the opposition for the way they played. Highlights that there are still plenty of positives for his team, with the batters finding form, Rilee Rossouw scoring runs, and the openers continuing their good starts. Feels these are things they can build on, while also looking to add a few players to strengthen the squad. Urges his team to keep playing with intent and stay positive, noting that this is always a hard ground to play on, but with a better effort with the ball, they will be in a strong position going forward.
Trinbago Knight Riders' Colin Munro is adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his impressive match-winning hundred in the first inning. He says he had focused a lot on fitness during the winter as it was tough to get outdoors, and worked on hitting the ball cleanly with good contact and strong positions. Speaking on his hundred, he says it feels special because it came in a winning cause, which makes it memorable. He mentions that he didn’t look to premeditate too much and just tried to play with freedom. Munro adds that there is a strong sense of brotherhood in the camp, as the Trinidad boys have always welcomed him warmly, and even with a few new faces, nothing feels too different. On his celebration, he explains that it was partly for his family and partly an outlet for frustration, as he hadn’t played here for the last few years. Admits that he is getting older, but wanted to prove that he still has plenty to offer.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Earlier in the game, Jason Holder invited the Knight Riders to bat first, but that decision backfired. Hales and Munro got Trinbago Knight Riders off to a flier as boundaries came quick and fast early doors. Bowlers appeared to be a bit too short or too full on the flat track, and the openers took full benefit of it. A strong platform was created through a 114-run opening stand. All incoming batters scored in the teens, but it was Munro who did the bulk of the scoring and got off to a phenomenal century, helping his side to post a mammoth 231 on the board. All the bowlers were taken to the cleaners as all of them went for over 10 runs per over, with Holder and Waqar Salamkheil bagging two apiece.
Despite the dip in momentum, Rilee Rossouw and Jason Holder continued to push forward with purposeful intent, keeping the chase alive. Their 57-run stand offered a glimmer of hope, but it was once again Usman Tariq who stepped up and broke the partnership. From that point on, the Knight Riders tightened their grip, dragging the Patriots down from 152 for 3 to 165 for 6. On debut, Tariq showed remarkable composure and bravery with the ball, standing tall while others were being dispatched to all corners. Perhaps the Patriots will rethink their team composition, given that spinners fared better than pacers on this pitch. Trinbago Knight Riders fielded three spinners, and their combined performance was impressive, conceding just 90 runs and picking up six wickets in 12 overs.
Chasing a mountainous total like 232, it was all about coming out and going bang-bang in this mammoth chase, and the Patriots' openers did exactly that. Likewise, the opponents, Mayers and Fletcher, set the tone perfectly, going unbeaten with 65 on the board after the Powerplay. The pitch had runs written in bold and capital letters on it, and both capitalised on anything remotely loose. Amidst the carnage, it was the debutant Usman Tariq who broke through to break the 80-run opening stand. The momentum shift continued when Fletcher departed soon after, leaving the Patriots at 82 for 2 and suddenly short on rhythm. With two new batters now responsible for keeping the chase alive, the pressure to maintain the tempo grew heavier, turning the contest into a test of nerve and execution.
450 runs and 24 sixes across both innings, with the margin of difference being just 12 runs in a chase of 232. One of those days when you just don't want to be a bowler as the ball was smashed right, left and centre of the park at will. With the batters calling the shots, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots would be disappointed and would reflect that if there was one stable partnership in that middle phase, who knows, the result might have been different.

SIX! ENDS WITH A MAXIMUM! But Trinbago Knight Riders beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 12 runs. On a length and around off, Dominic Drakes gets across, clears out his front leg away, and muscles it over cover point for a biggie. The fighting from the Patriots was there, but they failed to capitalise on the early start given by their openers and lost. But what a performance from the Knight Riders on the other hand, as they were clinical, especially their spinners after their batting, including Munro's hundred, to defend this total on a flat deck.

Pitches it up and wide outside off, Naseem Shah goes on his knees and is a bit early in his shot and gets a top edge off the upper half of the bat. The ball lobs up towards point, where there is no fielder. A single taken.

SIX! LAUNCHED! Bowls it full and outside off, seems to be a slower one, Naseem Shah clears out his front leg away and thumps it straight downtown for a biggie this time. He is surely entertaining the crowd here.

FOUR! Makes full use of the freebie. Full and around middle, a low full toss, Naseem Shah picks it up and smashes it down the ground over the bowler's head for a boundary.

Oh! Munro bowls a beamer straight towards the batter, but Naseem Shah does well to duck underneath it. Called a NO BALL.

FIVE WIDES! This is poor bowling! A full toss, down the leg side to a tailender, Naseen looks to swing on it but misses. Even the keeper fails to stop it to his left and the ball races away into the deep fine leg fence for a boundary. 200 comes up for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
