The weekend is here! It means, double the dose and fun! A quadruple header of sorts! The first ball is set to be bowled at 10 am GMT, with Trent Rockets Women taking on Southern Brave Women in Nottingham. That will be followed by The Oval Invincibles Women clashing with The Welsh Fire Women at The Oval. And likewise, the same two sides from The Men's will play after their respective female counterparts' matches are done! A long, long day awaits, but let's bring it on! Our action will begin well in advance, so do tune in early. In the meanwhile, you can catch all the action from the Caribbean Premier League and also from South Africa's tour of Australia! Get the popcorn ready and do not leave your sofa sets. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
That ends a wonderful day for the Headingley crowd. With wins for the home side in both, The Men's and The Women's, Northern Superchargers are topping the table in both competitions! The Men's side now moves to Old Trafford, to take on Manchester Originals on Sunday, 17th August, 2025. The Birmingham Phoenix, on the other hand, need to rise from the ashes. They head back home to host The London Spirit on Sunday as well.
Northern Superchargers' ADIL RASHID HAS BEEN ADJUDGED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH, for his 2/26 in 20 balls, with 8 dots. Rashid says that his side played exceptionally well right from the start and ultimately got wickets as well. Adds that The Phoenix have some world-class players and even in the middle, they have the firepower. Mentions that for him, he tries to keep it simple as he knows that the batters will come hard at him and thankfully, it came off for him. Adds that knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition helps. Ends by saying that he is always learning on the job.
Earlier in the game, a terrific batting display by the home side saw them rack up a commanding 193/5 in 100 balls. Zak Crawley's 45 and Dawid Malan's 58 gave the hosts a solid base while skipper Harry Brook's entertaining cameo of 31 from 14 balls gave the crowd its money's worth. It was a tough outing for the Phoenix, as they just could not land the ball in the right areas consistently.
Excellent bowling from Northern Superchargers and fine captaincy from Harry Brook as well. Except for the period when Livingstone and Bethell were going hard, the bowling changes and the bowling were spot on. And what about the fielding? Three absolute stunners, from Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid and skipper Brook himself got the crowd to life. Everyone bowled well, with the exception of Mitchell Santner, but he came back really well, going for just 15 in his last 2 sets. Matthew Potts picked up 3 wickets, while Jacob Duffy and Thomas Lawes picked up 2 apiece but the real gamechanger was Adil Rashid, with 2/26 in 20 balls, with 8 dots, not allowing Livingstone to tee off much.
Livingstone was the one who started the attack but Bethell got into his own pretty quickly. In a stand of 80, the southpaw scored 48, overshadowing his own skipper. However, once he fell, it was entirely upon the skipper and it was too much to do. Livingstone tried hard with his 46, which included 4 sixes, but looking at that batting card, two batters scored 94 runs - the remaining 9 managed just 63. That tells the story. Had someone from the top 3 seen off the Powerplay, this run chase would have been on. Sadly, for The Phoenix, though mathematically they can still make it, with 3 losses in 4 games, hard to see them qualify for the next round from here.
During the innings break, Zak Crawley did mention that runs do come thick and fast at Headingley. The opening bowlers took care of that, as Jacob Duffy and Matthew Potts had the Superchargers 3 down in the first 4 sets. It was then that Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell got together and at that time, it seemed like a historic run chase was on the cards.
A great day for the crowd at Headingley. A double bonanza, with both, the Women and the Men, coming up trumps, in convincing fashion. This is now the 5th straight win for the Northern Superchargers in Leeds!

A dot to end proceedings! Jacob Duffy nails the straight yorker and all Chris Wood can do is jam it out. Northern Superchargers win by 36 runs!
Chris Wood is the last batter in, replacing Tim Southee.
OUT! LBW! That looks stone dead. Southee has taken the review but this looks to be more in hope and desperation. Full and fast, around middle, Southee looked to swing but missed and was hit on the pads. The umpire raised his finger and Southee reviewed and started walking off at the same time! Duffy and Southee share a laugh as the umpire signals this upstairs. Hawk Eye projects it to be crashing into leg stump!

Beaten! A quick yorker angling down leg, Trent Boult backs away to hit but is well beaten.
