Sophie Devine is the HERO OF THE MATCH for her all-round contribution. She says that she is pleased about the result and lauds Danni Wyatt-Hodge for setting up the game for them. Adds that it was tricky wicket but a great game for them and nice to do in front of the home crowd. Shares that she wants to be sharp and keep learning as she has not played a lot of cricket over the last few months, and was a bit rusty. Closes by adding that she wants to keep contributing to the success of her side.
Presentation time...
Opting to bat first, the Brave Women posted a competitive total of 139/7, anchored by a composed half-century from Danni Wyatt-Hodge. She was well-supported by Sophie Devine and Laura Wolvaardt, who chipped in with valuable contributions. At one stage, the Brave looked set to cross 150, but a disciplined bowling effort from the opposition kept them in check. In reply, the Braves’ bowlers took center stage. Lauren Bell led the charge with an impressive three-wicket haul, while Sophie Devine and Tilly Corteen-Coleman picked up two wickets each. Georgia Adams and Chloe Tryon also struck with the ball, as wickets fell at regular intervals and the fielders backed the bowlers with sharp catches. It was a complete team effort from the hosts, combining disciplined bowling and sharp fielding to defend the total comfortably and continue building momentum in the tournament.
Southern Brave Women have made it two wins from two to kick off their season, defeating Birmingham Phoenix Women by 15 runs in a well-rounded performance. Defending a target of 140, the Brave struck early, dismantling the Phoenix top order inside the powerplay. Ellyse Perry and Amy Jones then mounted a recovery with a composed partnership, but their dismissals at crucial junctures halted the chase’s momentum. Sterre Kalis offered hope with a determined 44 off 34 balls, keeping Phoenix in the hunt deep into the innings. However, the lack of support from the middle and lower order proved costly, as Birmingham ultimately came up short.
