Right then, that is it from the first game of the Global Super League 2025, where Dubai Capitals got the better of Central Stags. However, it is a double-header and we have another game lined up for us. It will be the hosts, Guyana Amazon Warriors, taking on the defending champions, Rangpur Riders. That game will begin at 11 pm GMT (Previous Day), but as you know, you can join us for all the build-up for the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Gulbadin Naib, the victorious skipper of Dubai Capitals, says that the first win is very important. Adds that it is crucial to use the first 6 overs, and he is happy with his team's efforts. Mentions that Shakib Al Hasan is one of the most experienced guys, and he knows his game very well. Says that he was looking at a total of above 150 and knew that the wicket will slow down and they have the quality to defend it. Further adds that they have made small mistakes, which they will look to improve on. Ends by saying that some of the players are still on the way and he is hopeful they will have them for the next game.
Tom Bruce, the captain of Central Stags, says that they were a bit rusty with the ball and on the field. Adds that they gave away a few extra runs and dropped a few catches that cost them. Mentions that they have also not played together for a while and will need a bit of time to settle in, but is hopeful of a comeback in the next game. Ends by saying that they will need to learn from their mistakes and do well against Guyana in the next match.
Shakib Al Hasan is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his all round brilliance. He says that it is good to be part of this team, and it was a last-minute call, as one of the players pulled out or got injured, but he is happy to contribute. Adds that the CPL experience has helped him a lot to play in these kinds of conditions. Mentions that contributions with the bat and ball were both important. Says there were struggling with the bat and needed a partnership, and a score above 160 is always a good one in Guyana. Ends by saying that it is always good to win the first game.
Presentation Time...
It was spin that sealed the deal for the Capitals. After the pacers kept things tight early on, the spinners took charge with Shakib Al Hasan leading the way in spectacular fashion. He claimed a brilliant four-wicket haul and was virtually unplayable at times. Aryaman Varma offered solid support with a wicket of his own, while Dominic Drakes contributed with one as well. Khuzaima Tanveer then wrapped things up in style, picking up two in the final over to round off a superb bowling performance.
Earlier in the game, the Dubai Capitals put up a competitive total, thanks to a determined half-century from Shakib Al Hasan, a brisk 41 from Sediqullah Atal, and some late fireworks from Jesse Bootan. Angus Schaw stood out with the ball for the Central Stags, claiming three wickets, while Blair Tickner chipped in with a couple, and Dean Foxcroft added one to help contain the opposition to a manageable score.
Central Stags began their chase with a measured approach, as both openers combined caution with bursts of aggression. However, their momentum took a sharp hit once the spinners came into the attack. From there on, wickets tumbled at regular intervals, and they struggled to string together any meaningful partnerships through the middle. While a few batters managed to get starts with skipper Tom Bruce top-scoring with a gritty 34 off 39, it ultimately proved to be a tough outing, as they fell well short of the target.
A commanding win for the Dubai Capitals to kick off their Global Super League campaign in style! It was a complete performance from them, but it was Shakib Al Hasan who truly stole the spotlight with an all-round masterclass in Guyana. The Central Stags, meanwhile, looked out of their depth on a surface that offered turn - clearly more accustomed to quicker, bouncier tracks, they found the going tough against the spinners.

OUT! TAKEN! Khuzaima Tanveer joins the party now! He serves this full and on middle, takes pace off again. Doug Bracewell uses his feet to loft it down the ground, but fails to get the timing right. It flies towards long on where Kadeem Alleyne runs forward and dives to take a fantastic catch. A nice little cameo from Bracewell comes to an end now. It is Dubai Capitals' game now!
