Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where the Hobart Hurricanes start their tournament with a fine win over the Dubai Capitals. Next up in the GSL 2025 is a battle between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Central Stags. That will begin at 11 pm GMT (Previous Day), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Gulbadin Naib, the captain of Dubai Capitals, says that they played a few false shots and gave away a few too many runs as well. Praises Fabian Allen and Mohammad Nabi for the way they bowled and says they have the experience playing in these conditions. Mentions that they have to be better in the field and cannot keep dropping catches. Says that their next game is a night match, and the conditions will be different. Ends by saying that everyone is a professional and knows their role, and he is hoping for a bounce back.
Ben McDermott, the victorious skipper of Hobart Hurricanes, is also the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his fiery knock. He says that when you nullify someone like Shakib Al Hasan, you know things are going to pay off, and it was the plan. Adds that it is nice to see the local and new guys chipping in excellently. Mentions that they ran well and converted the ones into twos, and it is nice to get the win. Says that with the weather around, it was going to be safe to chase, and he reckons this will be a tournament of chasing targets.
Presentation Time...
Put in to bat, the Dubai Capitals faltered again and could only post a below-par total despite brief contributions from Sediqullah Atal, Jesse Bootan, and a gritty 31 from Gulbadin Naib. Mohammad Nabi and Fabian Allen spun a web around the batters, sharing six wickets, with Usama Mir and Odean Smith grabbing one each. With the ball, the Capitals looked flat and were taken apart early. Though Rohan Mustafa, Qais Ahmad, and Aryaman Varma picked up wickets, they were mere consolations in a thoroughly one-sided contest.
It was a chasing masterclass from the Australian side. Many expected them to struggle in these conditions, especially against spin, but they delivered a near-flawless performance with the bat. Skipper Ben McDermott set the tone early, making full use of the Powerplay and scoring exactly half the required runs to break the back of the chase. His explosive 48 off just 24 balls laid the perfect foundation. Macalister Wright provided solid support and went on to notch up a brilliant fifty, while Jake Doran chipped in to seal the deal as they wrapped up the chase with three overs to spare.
A dream start to the campaign for the Hobart Hurricanes. They've now won 10 of their last 11 competitive matches, and this victory also marks the most dominant chase in GSL history in terms of wickets and balls to spare. As for the Dubai Capitals, they just didn’t show up on the day. Still, with two points already on the board, they'll be eager to bounce back and correct their course in the upcoming fixture.
