Right then, that wraps up a memorable second season of the Global Super League 2025. The hosts, Guyana Amazon Warriors, have etched their name in the history books by winning their maiden title, toppling the defending champions in a gripping contest. The gleaming trophy is handed to skipper Imran Tahir, who walks over to his teammates, and together, they lift it high amid cheers and celebrations. The players then take a well-deserved lap of honour, soaking in the applause from a jubilant home crowd. We hope you’ve enjoyed every bit of the action this season had to offer. But don’t worry, the cricketing carousel keeps spinning - plenty more action awaits around the world, just a tab away. Until next time, take care, and see you in the next season!
Imran Tahir, the captain of Guyana Amazon Warriors, is also the PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT (14 wickets - more than anyone else). He says that it is a very special moment for him, as he has been dreaming about this. Adds that last year it did not happen for some reason, but they have made their fans proud. Credits the management for arranging a squad of players who were playing across the globe. Mentions that they struggled a bit with the batting, but they knew if 2-3 guys performed, they would be good. Tells that once they posted 196, they were confident of defending it. Further adds that things have come pretty hard for him since he was a kid, so he does not take it for granted and works hard for everything. He thanks the Guyana people and says that his family from Pakistan and people from South Africa were wishing him. Ends by saying that this tournament can only get bigger and better from here on.
The runners-up medals are now being handed out as Nurul Hasan leads the Rangpur Riders onto the podium. He accepts the cheque on behalf of his team and gets ready for the customary flash interview. He says that it was a tough night for them. Credits the Warriors' batters for the way they played. He thanks the team management and his players, as well as the GSL, for organizing such a great tournament. Mentions that it was not their day as they did not hit the right areas and made mistakes in the Powerplay. Ends by saying that Guyana management has done a great job with the arrangement of this season.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his outstanding knock. He is also the leading run-scorer of the season with 139 runs. He says that he is grateful for this opportunity and is very happy with his knock and the win. Adds that he is very proud of his team. Mentions that he and Charles thought the wicket was a bit better, but he was still trying to be sensible. Says that they were looking for something around 150, but ended up scoring over 190 runs, which was great. Further adds that Rangpur Riders also played well. Tells that maybe he is the lucky charm for the team. Ends by dedicating this victory to the people of Guyana and hopes that he can come back and do it again in the CPL.
Presentation Time...
Shimron Hetmyer shares a few words now. He says that he slipped while trying to go for the catch, and it was just his instinct to save his face. Adds that words cannot express how he feels, and he is very happy for the fans as well, who deserve this title. Mentions that they could not make it to the final last year, but they had to do it this time. Ends by saying that it is time for celebrations now.
Johnson Charles is first up for a quick chat. He says that his belly is a bit dodgy, but he is loving that they are the champions. Adds that it was a knock that needed patience, and he is just happy that he contributed. Acknowledges the supporters and says that he will love to do this again next year. Gudakesh Motie joins him and says that it is pretty exciting. Adds that Johnson Charles and Rahmanullah Gurbaz had a nice partnership, and they took it from there. Says that they knew what they wanted to do and ends by thanking the fans for their support.
The hosts were outstanding with the ball, nailing their plans and exploiting the conditions to perfection. Their spin‑heavy approach paid rich dividends: Dwaine Pretorius mixed up his pace cleverly to snare three wickets, while Imran Tahir and Moeen Ali combined for three more. There was a brief hiccup when Shimron Hetmyer trod on the rope to turn a wicket into a six, but it hardly mattered, as on the very next delivery, sharp fielding produced a run‑out that swung momentum straight back. Gudakesh Motie then applied the finishing touches with a double strike in the final over, by which time the title was already safely in their grasp. Let's now hear from a few players from the champions.
Earlier in the game, after opting to bat first, Guyana Amazon Warriors put on a batting masterclass to post the highest total in the history of the league. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Johnson Charles went on a rampage at the top, stitching together a 121-run stand, the biggest partnership for any wicket this season, with both registering explosive half-centuries. The late fireworks came from Sherfane Rutherford and Romario Shepherd, who added the finishing touches with some powerful hitting. Rangpur Riders found it tough going with the ball, leaking runs at an alarming rate. While Khaled Ahmed, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Tabraiz Shamsi managed to pick up wickets, they came at a hefty price.
The chase got off to a disastrous start for the Rangpur Riders, with three wickets tumbling inside the Powerplay and hardly any runs on the board. Their struggles against spin were clearly evident, but a brisk 73-run partnership between Iftikhar Ahmed and Saif Hassan briefly reignited hopes. However, just when things seemed to be turning in their favour, a costly mix-up led to Saif’s run-out, and Iftikhar followed soon after. From there, it was a downward slide, with only Mahidul Islam Ankon showing some resistance, as the rest failed to make an impact, eventually bowled out for 164.
GUYANA AMAZON WARRIORS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF GSL 2025! A dominant all-round performance from the home side, and they never looked like slipping up this time. The batters laid a strong foundation, and the bowlers followed it up with precision and intent. Interestingly, the Warriors had started their campaign with a loss against Rangpur Riders, but haven’t put a foot wrong since - a true full-circle moment. As for the Riders, they'll be gutted with this outcome, having been thoroughly outplayed in all departments and falling well short in the final.
