What does Friday, 15th August, 2025, hold in store? Another double header, of course! It will be the Northern Superchargers taking on the Birmingham Phoenix at Headingley, Leeds. The Women's match is scheduled to begin at 2 pm GMT while the Men's game is scheduled to start from 5.30 pm GMT. But our buildup will begin well in advance. For all the cricket fanatics, the Caribbean Premier League is kicking off in a few hours, so you can have loads of fun. Enjoy. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
So, a rut-breaking day at Lord's, with Trent Rockets Women breaking their losing spree while the home side in the Men's ensuring that the crowd got something to cheer about. It is a proper logjam in the Men's points table, with as many as 5 teams locked in on 8 points! The Spirit have moved to 5th, while The Rockets have slipped down to 3rd. The Spirit get back on the road, towards Birmingham, as they take on Birmingham Phoenix next, on Sunday, 17th August, 2025. The Rockets, on the other hand, have a quick turnaround, as they head back home to Nottingham, where they host Southern Brave on 16th August, 2025.
London Spirit's JAMIE SMITH HAS BEEN ADJUDGED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant 52, which was backed up with a couple of catches as well. He begins by saying that winning in front of the home crowd feels great. Reflects and shares that they learnt from what the bowlers of Trent Rockets did. Highlights that taking pace off the ball and using the dimensions worked well as they kept taking wickets. Says it is nice to get some runs under the belt. Mentions that he is still building relationships with the likes of Warner and Williamson at the top.
Earlier in the game, despite following the Women's game and the records warning him, David Willey chose to field and ultimately paid the price. Jamie Smith, promoted to open, made full use of his form and opportunity, hammering the new ball and making a priceless 52. Skipper Williamson played well for his 45, with their 73-run stand laying down the platform for a competitive total while towards the end, Ashton Turner's cameo got the score past 160. The Rockets were not quite consistent with their lines and lengths and struggled for a major portion of their innings, despite getting David Warner early.
Spot on bowling from London Spirit. They struggled to take wickets for the first half of the chase but the moment they found one, kept running through the opposition. Everyone bowled well, with Daniel Worrall and Richard Gleeson standing out with 2 wickets apiece. A special mention for Jamie Overton as well, who managed to bowl 20 balls, after getting injured in his first set itself. Kane Williamson had only 5 bowlers and had Overton not returned, he would have been forced to go to Ashton Turner, which might have been tricky for his side at the halfway mark.
Just like the Women's game earlier in the day, batting second proved to be difficult in the Men's game as well. 163 was expected to be tough to chase down but The Rockets got off to a flier, with Tom Banton flaying the ball to all parts. He found a good opening partner in Joe Root who rotated strike effectively and the duo managed 38 runs in the Powerplay and even added 73 for the opening wicket. However, once Banton fell, the other batters, including Root, struggled to adapt to the sluggish pitch and kept losing wickets. There were some bizarre batting promotions, with David Willey coming in at 3 and Rehan Ahmed being sent up at 4, but neither worked. Add to it, Tom Alsop got one on the grill of his helmet and walked off retired hurt. Towards the end, Stoinis' unbeaten 35 helped his side lessen the margin of defeat. Who knows, had he been sent in at 3, he might have won the game for his side as he likes to start slow but ramps it up as his innings deepens.
Chasing continues to be difficult at Lord's in The Hundred. The highest successful chase at this venue in this format is 140, achieved by Birmingham Phoenix, way back in 2022. At the halfway stage of the chase, it seemed like The Rockets were in with a chance, but then, the wheels just came off. This win ends The Spirit's three-match losing streak at Lord's and it is also the biggest defeat for Trent Rockets in terms of runs.

SIX! A bit short this time, Stoinis goes back and punches it over extra cover! Moves to 32 (20). Might be meaningless runs, but could help the team's net run rate.

Way too full, around off, drilled back to the bowler.

SIX! Liam Dawson has been given the last set because the game is in the bag. Short, around off, Marcus Stoinis backs away and swings it straight back, into the crowd, over the sightscreen.

Very full and on the leg stump, Akeal Hosein flicks it behind square on the leg side for a single.
Akeal Hosein walks in next, at number 9, replacing Adam Hose.
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Richard Gleeson gets his second wicket! Clever change of pace from him as he bangs it on a length, around off and middle. Adam Hose gets down on his knee and looks to pull it away, but the ball bounces extra off the deck and grazes the glove before carrying back to Jamie Smith who takes a regulation catch behind the stumps. Adam Hose goes for 9 (5) and Trent Rockets are 125/6 down now.
