That is all from this game. The action continues in the CPL as Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will face Barbados Royals at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua. Do join us on the 16th of this month at 11 pm GMT, and earlier for the build up. Till then, cheers!
Imran Tahir, the captain of Guyana Amazon Warriors says that they pretty much ticked all the boxes but there is always room for improvement. Adds that the bowlers set the tone, the spinners were brilliant, especially Gudakesh Motie, and it was nice to see a complete performance. Mentions that they had a plan to bowl offies from both ends as the opposition had a lot of left-handers, but they changed it after a couple of expensive overs and played according to the conditions. Says that they had a chat with Ben McDermott before signing him, and he is very pleased with his performance and calls for a great team player. Further adds that no game is easy, but everyone wants a couple of days' break to go again and do the same thing. Ends by saying he definitely caught the ball (On Mayers' catch).
Jason Holder, the skipper of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots says Evin Lewis is a big player for them and lost him at a crucial point in the game. Tells they lacked a bit of intent in the second innings. Feels they were 20 to 25 runs short and didn't really adapt to the conditions. Mentions there are a lot of positives from the game, they got five wickets today and 10 wickets yesterday.
Ben McDermott wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD for his blistering knock at the top of the order. He says it's a nice start to his CPL career, and it is nice to help the team and get the first win. Tells cricket is a funny game and he doesn't want to get ahead of time, hopes to contribute further in the tournament. Shares Waqar Salamkheil bowled nicely and admits it was nice to bat against the pace. On his partnership with Shai Hope, he feels it was nice to play alongside one of the best from the West Indies.
...Presentation...
Earlier, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots were asked to bat first and were put under pressure by some well-executed bowling from Guyana Amazon Warriors. The Warriors bowled with a plan and kept chipping in with regular wickets which didn't help St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' approach to a big total. Later in the chase, Guyana Amazon Warriors smoked with the bat, thanks to the debutant, Ben McDermott and West Indies' finest, Shai Hope.
On a two-paced pitch, we feel the pitch got a bit better to bat on under the lights, but still, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots were ordinary in their defence. Jason Holder surprised everyone by not bowling inside the Powerplay, which was not helped by his bowlers' bowling a lot of freebies. They were belted and hammered throughout the innings. Waqar Salamkheil bowled well in the middle phase but lacked consistency. Kyle Mayers bowled just two overs despite getting some movement initially. Overall, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots lacked intent with the bat and ball.
A pretty impressive win by the Guyana Amazon Warriors, and they get off to a strong start in this season's CPL. A convincing win for Guyana Amazon Warriors. Their new opener, Ben McDermott, set the tone with a blistering 75 off 39. On his debut, he dominated the game by initially providing the impetus in the Powerplay and later with his partnership with Shai Hope. The 114-run partnership blew out St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, who were pretty ordinary with the ball.
