And that's a wrap from this thrilling game! A cracking victory for Saint Lucia Kings, their biggest successful run chase in CPL as well. The action continues in the Caribbean Premier League 2025 as we have a game lined up on Monday, 1st September. It will be between Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The game will begin at 8.30 pm IST (3 pm GMT). Do join us for the early build-up as well. Until then, take care, and cheers!
David Wiese, the skipper of Saint Lucia Kings, says that he is happy with the win. He adds that the supporters were great and they are happy to be in this position. He says that the hot conditions here are a bit difficult to adjust to, but the result was good. He mentions that 92 in the powerplay was a great start, and from there it was always an easy chase.
Imad Wasim, the skipper of Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, says that they scored big runs, but unfortunately, it was not enough. He says that the fielding was not up to the mark and it is what cost them. Says that Amir Jangoo played well and Shakib Al Hasan played an outstanding inning, but a few dropped catches and some extra runs were the problem.
Tim Seifert is the Player of the Match for his magnificent knock. He says that it was a great win and it puts their side in a great position. He says that this is one of the better wicket in CPL and it went good for him. Adds that they tried to put the Antigua bowlers under pressure from the start, and it worked well.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Antigua & Barbuda Falcons put on a batting masterclass, scoring a mammoth 204. Shakib Al Hasan scored a blistering 61 off 25 balls in a 91-run partnership with Amir Jangoo. Jangoo also reached his half-century after getting some inspiration from Shakib. The Falcons' momentum continued in the slog overs, with Fabian Allen smashing a quickfire 38 to take the score past 200. Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the Saint Lucia Kings bowlers, taking 3/30, but the Kings' bowlers lost discipline and leaked runs, ultimately allowing the Falcons to post a massive total.
Antigua & Barbuda Falcons must have thought that 204 was enough to defend but it all went wrong right at the start of the chase. Amir Jangoo made an infringement on the very first delivery as his hands were in line with the stumps and this brought about a No Ball and Free Hit. Tim Seifert took full toll of it and never looked back. The bowling in the Powerplay was underwhelming to say the least and only Salman Irshad seemed to be making an impact. The spinners also failed to get the breakthroughs in the middle overs, with only Usama Mir keeping his economy rate under 10.
The Kings had a daunting chase ahead of them and with this being a day game, everyone expected the pitch to slow down a bit as well in the second half. But Tim Seifert had other ideas. Both he and Johnson Charles started off in a positive way, racking up 38 runs in the first 2 overs. Seifert was simply relentless and Saint Lucia ended up scoring 92 runs in the Powerplay. Seifert stayed on until the end, scoring a stunning 125 unbeaten off just 53 balls in the process as the batters in the middle order made small but valuable contributions, taking the Kings over the line.
What an end to the game and fittingly, it is Tim Seifert who hits the winning six for the Kings! A rollicking win for Saint Lucia Kings in their final home game and they end the home leg in style. With this win, the Kings also go level on points with Trinbago Knight Riders at the top of the table. As for Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, they stay 3rd on the points table for now but only have a couple of more league games remaining, whereas a couple of teams still have 6 games in hand.
