Right then, that’s all from us for now, as the Manchester Originals Women get their second win of the season. Coming up next, it’s the Men’s teams of Manchester Originals and the Welsh Fire going head-to-head at the same venue. That match gets underway at 5:30 PM GMT, so be sure to switch over and catch all the action. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Mahika Gaur wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD. She says it feels good, it was a good effort by everyone, with the conditions helping the bowlers. Tells Beth Mooney told her if she bowls a good set, she will get another set and eventually bowl her full spell. Reckons the last game was very close but that just shows they could beat anyone when played well.
Earlier today, Welsh Fire Women batted first and posted just 73/9 with only Hayley Matthews and Jess Jonnassen making handy 20s while the rest of them struggled. Mahika Gaur, Sophie Ecclestone, and Kathryn Bryce chipped in with two each while Lauren Filer bowled a brilliant spell, taking a three-fer. The Welsh Fire will be keen to bounce back after losing two in a row, while the Originals Women will take a lot of confidence from this victory.
Well, Welsh Fire Women lost the game in the first innings itself. There is no doubt they are struggling with the bat this season but today was the worst so far. The form of their key players, Sophia Dunkley, Hayley Matthews, Jess Jonassen, is concerning and it's the sole reason they are not yet able to open the points table. The bowlers tried their best to stretch the game but even in their minds, they concluded the game a long time ago.
A one-sided affair as we expected it to be! The victory was never in doubt for Manchester Originals Women. They just needed someone to play a sensible innings on this sluggish and slower pitch, along with a slower outfield and got the job done by Kathryn Bryce. She struggled just like all the batters did throughout the game but Kathryn Bryce played smartly by using the pace and picking the gaps. Seren Smale struggled too initially, but she took her time and played the second fiddle to Kathryn Bryce, eventually hanging out there till the end to hit the winning runs.
