Introduction

Kumar Sangakkara, full name Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara, is one of the most celebrated cricketers in the history of the game. A stylish left-handed batsman and record-breaking wicketkeeper, he redefined Sri Lankan cricket with his class, consistency, and cricketing intelligence. Sangakkara is not only Sri Lanka’s highest run-scorer across formats, but also regarded as one of the greatest wicketkeeper-batsmen the game has ever seen.

With over 28,000 international runs, numerous records, and a post-retirement career in commentary and administration, Sangakkara’s legacy stretches far beyond the cricket field.

Early Life and Education

Born on October 27, 1977, in Matale, Sri Lanka, Kumar Sangakkara grew up in Kandy. He studied at Trinity College, where his cricketing talent was spotted early. A multi-talented student, Sangakkara was also skilled in violin and sports like tennis. His early performances in school cricket earned him recognition, and he represented Sri Lanka U-19 before making the national side.
