Nicholas Pooran Biography: The Power-Hitter Who Redefined Caribbean Flair

Nicholas Pooran (born 2 October 1995) is a Trinidadian cricketer who represented the West Indies national cricket team in limited-overs formats and also served briefly as the team’s captain. Known for his explosive batting and natural stroke play, Pooran made a name for himself in T20 leagues across the world and remains one of the most sought-after franchise players even after his international retirement in June 2025, aged just 29.

He plays domestically for Trinidad and Tobago, represents the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and has delivered standout performances in the CPL, BPL, and Major League Cricket (MLC).

Early Life and Youth Career

Born in Couva, Trinidad, Nicholas Pooran studied at Naparima College in San Fernando, where he played school-level cricket and quickly rose through the ranks. A left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, he made his debut for the Trinidad & Tobago U-19 team at age 16.

He gained international attention during the 2014 Under-19 World Cup, where he scored 303 runs in 6 matches and smashed a memorable 143 against Australia. His record-breaking 136-run ninth-wicket stand remains a highlight in U-19 cricket history.
