Shikhar Dhawan Biography: The Elegant Warrior of Indian Cricket

Shikhar Dhawan (born 5 December 1985) is a renowned Indian cricketer known for his flamboyant left-handed batting, unwavering consistency, and unmistakable charisma on and off the field. Nicknamed “Gabbar”, Dhawan has been one of India’s most dependable opening batsmen in limited-overs cricket and a key performer in global tournaments.

Early Life and Background

Born in Delhi into a Punjabi family, Shikhar was drawn to cricket at an early age. He trained at the Sonnet Cricket Academy under the legendary coach Tarak Sinha, who also mentored other Indian greats. Dhawan initially started as a wicketkeeper-batsman before focusing exclusively on batting.

He first came into the national spotlight during the 2004 ICC U-19 World Cup, where he emerged as the highest run-scorer and was named Player of the Tournament.

Domestic Career

Dhawan made his first-class debut for Delhi in 2004 and quickly established himself with solid performances in the Ranji Trophy. His consistency at the domestic level paved the way for national selection, and he remained a vital part of Delhi’s batting order for nearly two decades.
