Right then, that’s all from the women’s clash, where Oval Invincibles Women came up trumps and climbed to fourth in the standings. They now return home to face Welsh Fire Women on Saturday, 16th August, while Birmingham Phoenix Women head to Leeds to take on Northern Superchargers Women on Friday, 15th August, as they look to return to winning ways. We are not done for the day yet, as the men’s clash is up next. Birmingham Phoenix have opted to bowl first against the defending champions, Oval Invincibles. Please switch tabs and join us there. Cheers!
Alice Capsey is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her brilliant knock of 52 runs from 29 balls. Capsey says that she feels like she has got to a few starts and it was good to convert it into a big score. Adds that they have been part of a few close games which didn't go their way, but it was nice to get over the line. Mentions that they just took calculated risks, and the senior players like Kapp and Lanning made her job easier. Says that this wicket is known for grip and turn but the ball was coming on nicely and she took her chances on the short balls.
Earlier, after winning the toss, the Oval Invincibles opted to bat first. Lauren Winfield-Hill and Meg Lanning capitalised on Birmingham Phoenix’s inconsistent bowling to lay a solid foundation with a 76-run opening stand. Although neither could convert their start into a big score, Alice Capsey ensured the innings maintained momentum. In the latter stages, she found valuable support from Paige Scholfield, and together they powered Oval to 174, their highest total in Women’s Hundred history and the third-highest overall.
Given that 175 had never been chased in the history of the Women’s Hundred, Birmingham faced a steep challenge. Georgia Voll began promisingly but was unable to build on her start, leaving the Phoenix with only 35 runs in the Powerplay. From there, the pressure steadily mounted as they failed to get those big sets needed to keep up with the required rate. Lauren Winfield-Hill finished Marizanne Kapp’s quota of 20 balls early, maintaining the squeeze, before Amanda-Jade Wellington came on and tightened the screws further on a surface offering assistance to the spinners. The pressure eventually told on Ellyse Perry, and even Amy Jones struggled significantly, causing the required rate to spiral out of control.
Oval Invincibles Women have their first win of the season, and a convincing one at that! Their unblemished record against the team in orange stays intact, as they now extend their dominance to 6-0 over Birmingham in Women's Hundred. Birmingham Phoenix Women  have now suffered back-to-back defeats, and in this encounter, they were left playing catch-up right from the way they started with the ball.

FOUR! Maybe Sterre Kalis should have come in a bit earlier. Tash Farrant goes fuller and outside off, Kalis extends her arms and squeezes it through point for another boundary. Oval Invincibles Women win by 22 runs!

FOUR! A boundary but it does not matter much! Back of a length and around off, Sterre Kalis stays back and punches it sweetly through covers for four runs.
OUT! TAKEN! Tash Farrant gets a wicket now! She bangs this one short and around middle, Em Arlott tries to go for the pull but fails to get on top of it. She connects decently but hits it towards the longer side as the ball flies straight to deep mid-wicket where Phoebe Franklin makes no mistake.

Superb fielding this time! Pitched up and around off, Em Arlott carves it away wide of sweeper covers. The fielder covers good ground to her left and slides to make a fine stop. Two taken.

OUT! TAKEN! A fighting knock from Amy Jones comes to an end! Ryana Macdonald-Gay takes pace off, full and around off. Jones tries to go for the big shot but goes through it early and slices it up in the air. Meg Lanning at covers takes a dolly. This game looks done and dusted now.
