Right then, that’s the end of the first of two games in the Women’s Hundred on this Super Saturday. Up next at Trent Bridge, it’s the men’s clash at 1.30 pm GMT between these two same sides. In the Women’s Hundred, the action shifts to London, where Oval Invincibles take on Welsh Fire at the Kennington Oval, also starting at 1.30 pm GMT. And yes, the men from those two sides will clash later in the day as well. Our build-up for the upcoming games is already underway. Switch tabs and join us for all the action. Cheers!
Tilly Corteen-Coleman is adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her impressive four-wicket haul. She says that it has been a fantastic day with such a great team performance and another win on the board. Reflecting on the surface, she adds that with the track record at Trent Bridge, they expected it to be a bit slow, but she certainly cannot complain after the way things went. Speaking about the spirit in the camp, she mentions that the secret sauce is the fact that they are a great group who have worked hard and have something to prove after last year. Admits that she is a terrible watcher and was nervous all the way through, but says she always backs her team and is delighted with how it all turned out.
Earlier in the day, Southern Brave elected to bowl first and Georgia Adams was quick to realise that on a used, dry surface, spin was the way to go. Spin was introduced early through Tilly Corteen-Coleman, and she did not disappoint either side of the Powerplay. The Rockets went too hard against the spinners and paid the price. On a wicket where spin was tough to get away, they tried to take their chances against Lauren Bell, but the right-arm quick reaped the rewards. At 55/8, the Rockets were in deep trouble before a 51-run stand between Kirstie Gordon and Alana King gave them something to work with.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Laura Wolvaardt had done the heavy lifting for Southern Brave coming into this game, and if the Rockets were to defend their total, they needed those two early and they got exactly what they wanted. From there, it was about chipping away at the wickets with spin as the major weapon, but consistency was lacking and it didn’t materialise. Maia Bouchier and Sophie Devine ticked along with ones and twos while cashing in on the loose deliveries the Rockets offered every now and then. Their 69-run partnership had ensured the required run rate was never a concern when Maia fell and the challenge was more about handling the pressure. On a wicket where it wasn’t easy for new batters to settle, the Rockets managed to squeeze in a few dots to Freya Kemp, but she took her side to within touching distance before Tryon and Devine saw them home.
Southern Brave Women make it four wins from as many games, and the juggernaut of the 2023 champions rolls on! It got a little tighter towards the end than they would have liked, but it is still four more points in the bag. Trent Rockets Women, meanwhile, have been consigned to their third defeat in four games. While they can take heart from pushing the Brave deep with the ball, they will look back at their batting as the real reason for the loss.

FOUR! DONE AND DUSTED! Chloe Tryon finishes it off, and Southern Brave Women beat Trent Rockets Women by six wickets in a tightly fought contest. Cassidy McCarthy sprays it down the leg side, on a length, Tryon gets inside the line and tickles it down fine to deep fine leg for a boundary to seal the deal.

Valuable dot ball! Slower, on a length and around off, Chloe Tryon looks to push it into the off side but gets deceived by the lack of pace on it and gets beaten on the inside edge as it stays a bit low as well. Now, the equation is 2 runs off 3 balls.

In the air but falls short! On a length and around middle, Sophie Devine is a bit early in her shot and mistimes her shot towards long on but the ball falls down before the incoming fielder there. A single taken. 2 needed off the last 4 balls.

FOUR! WHAT A STRIKE! Full and around middle, Sophie Devine clears out her front leg away and heaves it in the gap between deep square leg and deep mid-wicket. The fielder from deep mid-wicket runs to her right and even puts in a dive, but fails to stop the ball from going over the ropes. A valiant effort goes in vain, and Southern Brave Women need just 3 runs off the last 5 balls.

On a length and around off, Chloe knocks it down towards cover and takes one. 7 needed off 6 balls.
Chloe Tryon walks in now.
OUT! CAUGHT! GONE! Trent Rockets Women are still in it! Short and around middle and leg, it seems to be a slower ball. Freya Kemp backs away and looks to go over the deep mid-wicket fence as she swings hard at it. But ends up mistiming it towards deep mid-wicket, where Natalie Sciver-Brunt keeps her eyes on the ball and pouches it above her head. Southern Brave Women need 8 runs from 7 balls.

Quick and full, around off, Sophie Devine clears out her front leg away and smacks it towards wide long on. She runs the first pretty quickly and wants another but is sent back as the fielder was quick to get across to her right and cuts it off.
